Giveaway: The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes by Crusie, Dreyer and Stuart

Okay, so it isn't March anymore... I did read it in March though!

The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes tells the story of 3 sisters with magical powers that don't always work quite the way the girls would like. They are in hiding from their evil aunt Xan, whom they believe had a hand in the death of their parents.

With a name like Xantippe you just have to be evil, so yes, Aunt Xan is up to something, and has cast a spell that in theory will bring the sisters' true loves to town. She's hoping they'll be so happy, and want so badly to live a normal life that they might not mind giving up their powers. She didn't quite count on how stubborn the girls would be, or their true loves for that matter!

This was a sweet, fun read. I like to describe it as adult Disney meets Charmed, and would like to pick up a copy of Dogs and Goddesses which features Crusie and Stuart again, this time with Lani Diane Rich in what seems to be a similar set up, three girls, three guys, mischief and fun!

I would love to pass my copy on to make a new friend! As always, this is a used book that is Bookcrossing labeled inside the front cover. While I would love love love a journal entry from the winner, it is by no means required, and the book is yours to do with as you please, whether that's keep it in your personal collection or pass it along to another friend! To enter, comment on this post and tell me what magical power you would like to have, it can be anything, from flying to shapshifting, to flipping your ponytail and having the dishes magically clean! Be creative and off the wall, entertain me! ;) No magical power, no entry! I will randomly select a winner on April 16th, my wedding anniversary, celebrate with me! I'm going to a book sale with Mr. Shaunie that day, woohoo!

  1. I would like to have a code word, let's see, like shabalah and then whatever I am looking for will show up right in front of my face. I'm extremely forgetful so this would come in handy!

  2. I love Jennifer Crusie and Anne Stuart so this is on my wishlist! Magickal power hmm... well I'd like to be able to pop into books. Not always of course nor would I want to always interact with the characters but I would love to "see" the scenery and stuff!

    Happy early anniversary!

  3. The magical power I would like to have, would be to be able to do as much as I think I can in the amount of time I think I can. Everything seems to take way longer than I think it should. Thus, I could read more!!! ;-)

  4. I want the magical power to get everyone to at least hear of Trevor, if not buy his books.

No need to enter me, though, darling. I've got too many books here as it is. *sigh*

And happy anniversary! I really wanted to get married in April... had to settle for March 29 instead.

  5. Hey, happy anniversary!

I've given this some thought. I would LOVE a super power that would allow me to pause my children. Just for a few seconds here and there, so maybe I could go to the bathroom without wondering if I will have a kitchen when I get back. haha

I wish I could have the power of mind control. I could control my hubby and kids to do the chores. Not the half-way way they usually do them but to get it done all the way. Thanks.

I love this type of book. It sounds like a lot of fun. As far as magical powers, I'm going to go with good, old teleportation.

  14. I'd love to be invisible. Yeah, I think that's it. Or to be able to fly! I'm torn :(
    Happy Anniversary!

I also love that you've read Charlaine Harris and Mayjanice Davidson! Those are 2 of my favorites.

  19. Happy anniversary!

I'd love to have the powers to heal living things. Not to make the dead live again, but just to help anyone that's hurt physically. This would come in handy if there were ever any emergencies and the doctors can't help, but other than that, just the feeling that I've helped someone is nice.

  20. Oh my, so many things that would be great - I think I'd most like super strength, project would be easier and I could save people when needed

  23. Hmm, if I could have a magic power I think it would be the ability to fly really really really really fast without injury to myself or anyone else (you know, so I don't freeze or die when I hit a bug at Mach 400, or accidentally kill anyone on my way). Cause then I could visit my fiance whenever I wanted to!

I actually saw this book not too long ago and was curious. So, it's cool I found a giveaway! Email is in my profile :).

    Thanks!

  24. Magical power? Hmm so many to pick but right now I really wish I has the power to WIN this book... muhaaaa Okay just joking... The power to pause time... Not so much so I could do anything while everything is paused but more that I could take a deep deep breath and relax for a minute because unpausing and letting chaos return.. OOOOO or the power to actually have my husband HEAR what I said exactually and not what he wanted to hear...

I would like to have the power to make anything I'm looking for, want, or need, appear in front of me. Lately I've been misplacing things like crazy, usually resulting in at least an hour-long search of the whole house until I find it. I'd really like to be able to save that time. I suppose I'd just have to be careful not to use it to summon anything I don't actually own. That'd be bad.

  26. Seriously, I just want plain old regeneration. That way, I'd never have to sleep, and then the sleep deprivation wouldn't be killing me and the kids and hubby wouldn't always be complaining about how grouchy I am and then I wouldn't have a million runon sentences and then I wouldn't always be complaining about not getting to sleep in! Plus with the extra few hours I sleep a day, I could maybe actually get caught up around here! Yep, regeneration.....highly underrated :)

  29. I can think of several different magical powers I would love to have, but for the moment I would settle for the ability to change jobs whenever I wanted so I could try out new things and find something that would really make me happy!
