Mini-Bloggiesta July 20-21, 2013

I am dipping my toe into Bloggiesta waters! I always think it sounds like a lot of fun but the timing just isn't right, or I think I'm too busy. I'm still going to be busy this weekend, but I have neglected the blog for a couple months and have some things I want to do, so here goes!

Blog to do list:

  • Decide on and post a new giveaway done!
  • Set up High Summer/Doin' It Dirty and Christmas in July Read-a-thons Starting Line post done!
  • Post a new Random Read review
  • Change layout? I like the 2 sidebars, but maybe they're too busy, so what do I really not need, or can move a separate page? (advice welcome!) done! But thoughts still very welcome!
  • Find a manageable weekly meme (used to do WWW Wednesdays and Teaser Tuesdays, maybe I'll pick that back up, suggestions for easy to maintain memes welcome!)  sort of done, I was given several ideas to look at, and the ones I used to do are still going, so I may pick those back up, but I haven't made any real decisions yet, and ideas are still very welcome!
  • Visit other Bloggiesta participants. done! Returned visits from everyone nice enough to visit me, which is probably all I will get done this time because I am slow, and visiting and commenting is definitely something I need to work on!
  • Start on Vacation Series Posts (these are all awesome places and I want to share them!):

    • Badlands
    • The Mammoth Site
    • Mount Rushmore
    • Devils Tower
    • Yellowstone
    • Grand Tetons
I may add more to the list as I see other people's wonderful ideas, or I may not get through any of this, for me it's quite a lot to do!  I look forward to see what everyone else is doing, and to learning from them!

    1. Welcome to your first Bloggiesta! The two memes I like are bookjourney's It's Monday What are you Reading? where you share what you read the week before, current reads and planning to read in the coming week. For every 10 comments on participants blogs, enter random drawing for a $5 Amazon GC, its a good one. Parajunkee and Alison Can Read's Feature & Follow on Fridays is the other one I do. You answer the Friday question, follow the hosts and featured blogger and others that have linked up. It's easy and increases your followers also.

Hope you will stop by my commenting and networking mini-challenge. I love the events on your sidebar, I have my eye on many of those too.

    2. My bloggiesta list always grows longer, due to other's to-do lists. I'm participating in the High Summer read-a-thon too and you just added preping the starting post to my list. That is a great idea! Have a wonderful proactive weekend.

    3. This is my first Bloggiesta, too - you have some great goals! Great idea to get things set up for the High Summer Read-a-thon, I hadn't thought of that. Hope you have a great weekend!

    4. Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme that we participate in, it's super fun to see what new books that people are eagerly awaiting. I always discover books I might not have otherwise, which is cool and the great thing is the posts are very simple to do - literally just a cover abd blurb and a short reason why you're looking forward to the book - then optionally who is publishing it and the release date. :)

Good luck on your list! I think for the sidebars that for me it was such a great feeling to have only one, it looked less cluttered - and keeps the clutter down in the future because you can only out so much on one sidebar haha

I noticed you have three Goodreads widgets, I realized on my blog that those widgets slowed the load time down a lot too. I used to leave the Challenge widget up and then opted even for that to go. So maybe pick one of the Goodreads widgets you find the most useful and then either move the others to a new page or simply remove them altogether?

I'll keep an eye out for your vacation series posts. That's an interesting list and I'd love to read about your experiences there.
