I take the "longer is better" attitude -- whether it's in a single novel or in a series. If I'm going to invest my time and energy in reading about a character, I don't want the relationship to end after only 35 pages!Elsihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08901292005565591814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25889646.post-15011063101549677212014-05-29T07:05:24.622-05:002014-05-29T07:05:24.622-05:00I don't think I'd ever be likely to read a...I don't think I'd ever be likely to read a novella by a new author, but I think I should probably try to make time for the novellas by author's I already love. Indeed, a short story/novella based in an established world can be kind of a blend of short story vibe (concept-centric) and full-novel vibe (exposition-centric, continuity-driven). I prefer short stories that accompany a series and give more insight in a certain character, event etc. Although there are also some anthologies and even some stand alone short stories i enjoyed. I used to hate short stories, because they are often too rushed, but i found there are some really great ones out there as well!Lolahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14284689418552571180noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25889646.post-28389474141736136812014-05-28T09:01:19.930-05:002014-05-28T09:01:19.930-05:00I feel like sticking to the Hugo list is a pretty ...I feel like sticking to the Hugo list is a pretty good way to pick books!Library Educatedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11441826320547182219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25889646.post-11128656183835597212014-05-28T07:51:44.561-05:002014-05-28T07:51:44.561-05:00My list of to reads continues to grow! And REALLY like the sound of the Iron Druid Chronicles so needless to say...the TBR is grown again, lol. Flannery O'Connor and William Faulkner. You make a good point about reading shorter stories in worlds with which you are already familiar. I haven't done much of that, but good idea.
